Service delivery protest a vendetta against me: Mashaba

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba says the Wednesday’s service delivery protests in Soweto are part of a political vendetta against him.

Mashaba was responding to the SABC’s questions on whether he is dealing with service protests across the city.

Mashaba heads a Democratic Alliance (DA)-led coalition, while the African National Congress (ANC) holds many wards in Soweto.

He says many of the protests, including the one in Soweto’s Freedom Park and other areas on Wednesday have been instigated by ward councillors.

“I think the violence today in Soweto without a shadow of doubt is a politically driven campaign to make the city ungovernable and these are things that are difficult to control, but we do our best in ensuring that our regional offices listen to our people to attend to their issues,” says Mashaba.
