Search underway for two missing miners at Sibanye mine

A search is underway for the remaining two missing miners at the Sibanye-Stillwater mine’s Ikamva shaft near Westonaria southwest of Joburg after three other miners died. The miners succumbed to heat and gas exposure.

The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) claims a mine manager had forced workers to go underground despite the Mineral Resources Ministry ordering a stop to production.

Last month seven miners died at the company’s Masakhane shaft. Close to 40 miners have been killed at mines across the country so far this year. Click below for more on the story:
