Emergency services personnel will continue their search for the bodies of two people swept away during floods in two separate areas in Johannesburg over the weekend.

A woman, who was trying to cross a bridge, was swept away by floodwater in Swanieville.

A man was also swept away by raging water at the Msawawa informal settlement in Douglasdale on Saturday night as he also attempted to cross a bridge.

Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Nana Radebe says: “The search started on Sunday morning at Msawawa and it continued to Douglasdale. On Tuesday we had passed the Hebron bridge.”

“The Aquatic unit and the Urban Search and Rescue team will continue until we get to Centurion.”
