Scopa gives green light to Mbete over Transnet inquiry

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) has agreed to request the Speaker of the National Assembly Baleka Mbete to approve another Parliamentary inquiry into Transnet’s affairs.

Earlier on Tuesday, members of the committee unanimously accepted a proposal by African National Congress Member of Parliament, Mnyamezeli Booi that recent allegations implicating Transnet in contracts worth billions with Gupta-linked companies require another probe into alleged state capture.

Booi says the Transnet board and executive cannot be trusted.

“Let us call for an investigation-a full investigation in these matters. And we do an application ourselves to the speaker and we got involved into this thing ourselves. We will run a parallel process with Transnet. We can’t be seated here and be led by Transnet on a situation. Even Peter himself and everyone there have been appointed by Guptas. Those allegations are there and this is what has been made by the media,” says Booi.
