MEC for Sports Arts and Culture in Mpumalanga Thandi Shongwe has hailed the organizers of the South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMA) for hosting such an event that promotes culture and nation building.
Shongwe was speaking during the 13th annual SATMA award media launch in Mbombela, Mpumalanga on Saturday night.
This year’s awards will be held in Mahikeng, North West in September.
According to Shongwe, bringing events like the launch to Mpumalanga, goes a long way in attracting tourists and boosting the province’s economy.
“We are a diverse province with different cultures, we speak different languages, we sing differently. Music for us to celebrate – it’s nation building, it creates social cohesion when people come together with different cultures, speaking in one language dancing differently, it’s very good for us as a province,” says Shongwe.
