The social security agency  (SASSA)  says it is making progress in meeting the deadline of the Constitutional Court to end its contract with Cash Paymaster Services (CPS).

The agency has told Parliament’s Committee on Social Development that it hopes to phase out the current SASSA cards issued by CPS, by August this year.

SASSA executive manager Raphaahle Ramokgopa says one of their aims is to reduce the number of beneficiaries at paypoints.

He says: “The critical driver in the next five months is to do the card-swap as a matter of urgency. We have decided card swap will prioritise people at cash pay points.”

“We will be phasing out the whole of the old SASSA card and introducing the new SASSA card.”
