The Department of International Relations (Dirco) says it has taken note of the developments in Gabon. It says South Africa’s mission is monitoring the developments in Libreville.

Earlier, the Gabonese Communications Ministry said authorities had launched a manhunt for a fifth man after arresting four soldiers who attempted to seize power.

It says the situation is under control and the coup attempt has failed.  Junior officers took control of the state radio station to declare that President Ali Bongo was too ill to continue to lead the country.
