The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has called on SuperSport employees to make submissions that could help in its investigations into allegations of racism.
The call comes after former Springbok winger, Ashwin Willemse, made racism allegations against two of his colleagues Nick Mallett and Naas Botha.
Willemse made headlines in 2018 when he walked off set during a live broadcast. SuperSport then launched an independent investigation into the matter.
The investigation which Advocate Vincent Maleka had chaired found that there was neither obvious nor subtle racism on the part of Mallett and Botha.
The SAHRC’s Buang Jones says the formal inquiry will start on 20 March.
“The scope of the inquiry is essentially to look into the alleged verbal clash between these three analysts at SuperSport, whether by act or omission SuperSport enabled an environment where disunity, racism thrives. Have there been any complaints at SuperSport or prejudice, there contribution towards promoting equality,” says Jones.
