SACP against Zuma campaigning for ANC

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The SACP has vowed not to campaign for the ANC if former President Jacob Zuma is involved in the election campaign in 2019.

The party says if the ANC is serious about self-correcting and cleansing itself it must not allow the former President to campaign for the party in the 2019 general elections.

SACP first Deputy General Secretary Solly Mapaila said this while delivering a memorial lecture on the Life and Times of Struggle Icon Chris Hani in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape.

Mapaila says they will continue to help the ANC redeem itself from its tainted image as a result of corruption implicating top leaders of the party.

But, Mapaila emphasized they will not do so with the same leaders implicated in corruption activities.

He also called upon leaders who are at the centre of allegations of bringing the party into disrepute to do a self-introspection.

“I was not necessarily referring to comrade Ace, but all comrades must begin to self-critic when there are allegations against them. Even he must ask himself if he is doing the party good or putting it into bad light.”

Mapaila also called upon the State to institute an inquiry into Hani’s assassination.

Hani was assassinated by anti-communist Polish refugee Januzs Walus in 1993.
