SACP will not support Zuma in court: Nzimande

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The South African Communist Party says it will not offer support to former President Jacob Zuma during his impending fraud and corruption trial.  Zuma will on Friday appear at the Durban High Court to face fraud, corruption and racketeering charges.

The charges stem from the Arms Deal of the late 1990s. The SACP was at the forefront of supporting Zuma during his court appearance in 2005, however the party started distancing itself from Zuma amid allegations of patronage, corruption and state capture.

The African National Congress has said that people can support Zuma in their personal capacity but not as party members. SACP General-Secretary, Blade Nzimande gives his party’s position.
