SACP calls on SABC workers to unite

Reading Time: < 1 minute

SABC management, labour unions Bemawu and Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) are currently locked in a meeting being facilitated by the CCMA, in an attempt to resolve the wage dispute.

SABC workers are in the second-day of their nationwide strike action. They are demanding a 10% salary increase while the SABC is offering 4.5% backdated to October.

The South African Communist Party is the latest organisation to throw its weight behind the workers strike.

SACP’s Mhlekwa Nxumalo says:”We want to make a call to all workers of the SABC those that are organised and those that are unorganised to be united behind the call that is being made by the striking workers.”

“It is important to unite and make sure that the SABC responds to the demands that have been placed to the table for wage increases as well as addressing some of the working conditions that they are working under.”

On Thursday Cosatu called on Communications Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane and the SABC board to intervene and ensure that worker’ demands are met.
