SAA to be split into three

South African Airways is being separated into three components. It’s Chief Executive Vuyani Jarana announced the break up.

The ailing aviation parastatal has been the source of much public debate.

The ideas put forward to government were to find non-aviation sources of revenue for the ailing carrier. South African Airlines which has not made a profile since 2011 was given a 5 billion bailout last year. Like other state owned entities, it has struggled to keep a positive balance sheet.

The airline will be broken into three businesses as part of its restructuring plan, mainly domestic, regional and international.

The details of how this will be done is yet to be announced.
