SA youth still needs to be educated about voting: Nzimande

SACP General-Secretary Blade Nzimande says the country’s youth still needs to be educated about the importance of voting.

Nzimande says most young people are still unaware that their votes help shape decisions on how the country is run.

He also says the SACP is working tirelessly to mend relations between the alliance partners.

But he reiterated that he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of his party contesting elections.

The SACP leader said it would have preferred working with the ANC.

He was speaking during the party’s voter registration drive in Pietermaritzburg,  KwaZulu-Natal, where he interacted with residents and went from door- to- door to encourage people to register.

The party further encouraged South Africans to verify their voting status.

“Our resolution is fairly clear, we’re going to contest elections, and whether we contest separately from the ANC will be determined by the extent to which we are able to address the issue of a reconfigured alliance.”
