Social media regarding next week’s State- of-the-Nation Address may mean greater public engagement. South Africans should not expect their views to have much effect on President Jacob Zuma’s address, this according to Political analyst Sanusha Naidu.

The Presidency at the weekend said it would welcome suggestions from the general public on Twitter or Facebook.

Naidu says members of the public may not get what they want.

“There’s a sense that if we don’t make a statement, then why do we have to complain, if we do make the statement , then what gets done? I think to a large extent, I’m not sure what we are going to see in SONA, but I do think that the state of the nation if it goes according to what we have seen in the past, we might not get the SONA we want, we might get the SONA that will be very very middle road, trying to address all of the issues in a way that they feel the state is capable to do so.”
