The number of coronavirus cases in South Africa has now accumulated to 459 761 after 7 232 South Africans tested positive for the virus.
Gauteng has the highest number of infections with 164 584 citizens having contracted the disease. The province accounts for 35.8% of the total number of cases in the country.
In a statement, the Department of Health has also confirmed 190 COVID-19 related deaths.
KwaZulu-Natal has recorded the highest number of new COVID 19 deaths – at 62; 55 fatalities were reported in Gauteng and 49 in the Western Cape.
This brings the total number of deaths to 7 257.
The Western Cape has the highest number of deaths with 2 960 Capetonians having succumbed to the disease.
The total number of recoveries stands at 287 313, which is a recovery rate of 62.5%.
