SA on the cusp of becoming a Mafia State: Pauw

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Investigative journalist and author of the blockbuster book “The President’s Keepers”, Jacques Pauw,  says South Africa is on the cusp of becoming a Mafia State that could rival the apartheid government.

In the late 80’s and early 90’s, Pauw exposed the so-called death squads of the apartheid government.

In his current book, he reveals the alleged connections between President Jacob Zuma and organised crime.

Pauw was speaking at the launch of the book at the Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria.

“It’s not about who is in power; it is about what they do and how they behave and it is not about whether they are black or white. The question about who is more corrupt – the present government or the apartheid government – I don’t think we have to discuss the apartheid government because it was simply evil. I think if we don’t check the current government and if it wasn’t for the fact that such a magnificent constitution that protect all of us heaven knows in which direction we will go. We might well land up with a government as evil as the apartheid government was.”

Former Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan, who was also at the launch, has praised investigative Pauw.

In the controversial book, Pauw makes allegations of abuse of money running into millions of rand against the Revenue Services and the State Security Agency (SSA).

Pauw also alleges, among other things, that President Jacob Zuma received a monthly salary from a businessman.

“What we do need in SA at the moment is more Jacques Pauw’s in government, civil society, business, labour movement, so that we can bring the truth out and show the minority of people who are bringing this country to its knees that the majority don’t want that. It is not my job to say whether those facts are verifiable or not in the book. Read the book for what it is; read many more books and contrary views if you want to, but at the end of the day we all know that the truth will prevail. “

Meanwhile, the State Security Agency has laid charges against Pauw for contravening certain sections of the State Security Act.

Spokesperson for the SSA, Brian Dube has confirmed that the charges were laid at the Lyttelton Police Station in Pretoria.

The charges relate to the alleged leaking of classified information in Pauw’s controversial  book “The President’s Keepers.”

In the book, Pauw alleges that millions of rands of taxpayers’ money flowed into the bank accounts of bogus spies while also revealing other information about alleged dirty tricks in SA’s law-enforcement agencies.
