‘SA citizens should look towards the dawn of a new era’

President Cyril Ramaphosa has used his inauguration address to bring a message of hope to the country, saying South Africans should look towards the dawn of a new era.

He was addressing the nation after taking his oath of office at the Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria.

The fifth democratically elected president was sworn in by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng – in the presence of thousands of dignitaries and citizens.

He swore allegiance to the constitution after being voted unopposed as the country’s leader in the National Assembly this week.

Ramaphosa has labelled South Africa’s challenges as ‘huge’, but assured the country that the issues will be solved.

“The challenges that our country face are huge and they are real, but they are not insurmountable, they can be solved and I extend here to say that they are going to be solved.”

“In the face of these challenges, our people have remained resolute, resilient and unwavering in their desire for a better South Africa thought the irrefutable power of the ballot. On 8 May, South Africans declared the dawn of a new era.”
