South African (SA) business people are optimistic that last week’s annual investor road show in the US will bring benefits.

More than 100 American investors attended the 6th annual road show in New York.

Twenty local CEOs accompanied Finance Minister Tito Mboweni and Reserve Bank Governor Lesetja Kganyago.

Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) CEO Nicky Newton-King says the sentiment from investors has improved from a year ago. Investors will be looking out at practical steps that South Africa takes in the months ahead, she adds.

“What strikes investors is the increasingly close cooperation between business, labour and government as we try to find solutions to the country’s future. The job and investment summit are all welcomed, but as SA we have to recognise that our ability to promise is one thing – delivery is what people are going to be focusing on. So, the early markers will be what steps are taken in the restructuring of SEOs. I think investors recognise that growth takes time to get going,” says Newton-King.
