South Africa says it’s looking forward to working with Zambia in an effort to push development and create peace and stability on the continent.
President Jacob Zuma, who’s on a two-day state visit to Zambia told his counterpart President Edgar Lungu that the two countries will continue to tap into each other’s experience as they seek to better the relations.
The visit will also see Oliver Tambo being honoured as the house he used to live in would be declared a national heritage site.
It’s probably that feeling of sameness that president Zuma went through as he experienced the guard of honour on his arrival.
With pomp and ceremony out of the way, it was down to business.
The two countries also signed several memoranda of understanding, from arts and culture, tourism and to the cooperation between the national broadcasters.
South African businesses are a regular feature in Zambia. Exports in 2016 amounted to R30 billion, but both countries want this increased. They addressed the business forum which explored various opportunities for both countries.
There’s no doubt that the two countries enjoy excellent relations.
But these two nations know that if poverty persists, the progress registered in the past years can easily be reversed.
