Limpopo’s Transport MEC Makoma Makhurupetje has expressed disappointment on a number of road collisions that are continuing to claim lives in the province.

This after seven people, including an on-duty traffic officer were killed in separate incidents.

Six people were killed and three others injured in a collision between two vehicles on the Polokwane-Matlala road.

A traffic officer, Masedi Mabusela was hit by an allegedly speeding vehicle in the Tubatse-Fetakomo municipal area.

48 year old Mabusela who was attached to the Tubatse-Fetakomo municipality was knocked down by a vehicle whose driver was allegedly speeding and failed to stop at a stop sign.

The driver has been arrested and will appear in court soon.

Makhurupetje has urged road users to obey traffic rules.

He says: “We had our program and operations throughout the weekend because we knew that it was a long weekend. We put all our traffic officers on the road because more cars were on the roads than busses but we still received reckless driving.”

“We are saying when you drive continue to obey the rules of the road,” says Makhurupetje.
