American civil rights activist and Baptist Minister Reverend Jessie Jackson has paid tribute to struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. The cleric is currently in the country to attend Mama Winnie’s funeral which will be held on Saturday at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

He is among many local and international dignitaries who are expected to attend the funeral which will be held on Saturday at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

Reverend Jackson says Mama Winnie needs to be honoured for continuing to fight for freedom while her husband, Nelson Mandela was in prison during the apartheid era.

Meanwhile, the African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) says it still believes that a covert operation set up by the apartheid government to use journalists to discredit Madikizela Mandela, never died post 1994 – but just widened its net to target other black women politicians.

The league’s Secretary General, Meokgo Matuba, says most South African Media Houses, though not all, are still being used for character assassination of women, particularly those who are in higher political positions.

Matuba said their call for the transformation in ownership control of Media houses is long overdue.
