Organiser of the first Cannabis Expo in Africa says the overwhelming response from the public will push government into wholly legalising the plant. Yesterday marked the fourth and last day of the expo which attracted over 15 000 people. The expo held at Menlyn in Pretoria comes against the backdrop of the Constitutional Court’s recent decriminalization of the use and cultivation of the herb in private spaces.
Expo co-founder and director Silas Howarth says, “With big business here attending at the cannabis expo, it’s going to be really interesting to see how government responds, how it will be engaging. I think it is important for them to see that attitudes have changed in South Africa towards cannabis, towards the plant. It would be interesting to see how government reacts to see the big business potential that cannabis has, the economic potential that cannabis industry has.”
