Rand Water condemns Emfuleni Municipality actions

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Rand Water has condemned what it terms the occupation of its business premises by a delegation from the Emfuleni Local Municipality  on Tuesday.

Rand Water says the action was totally unnecessary. It  further says, it is regrettable that the municipality would resort to blocking the gates to the entrance of its Head Office in Glenvista, south of Johannesburg, despite of ongoing talks to resolve water supply problems.

Rand Water reduced water supply to the municipality by 40 % because Emfuleni owes it close to 50-million-rand in outstanding debt for bulk water supply.

This left residents of Emfuleni which incorporates Evaton, Sharpeville, Boipatong and Vereeninging without water since last Friday. Supply was expected to be restored on Tuesday .

The municipality was not available for comment.
