Reading Time: 2 minutes

University of Mpumalanga Vice Chancellor, President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged graduates to be agents of change in their respective communities. Ramaphosa was speaking at the graduation ceremony at the University of Mpumalanga.

Over 200 students graduated in different fields including agriculture, hospitality and education.

President Ramaphosa has encouraged graduates to work towards the growth of the economy, saying they are also concerned about economic activity being largely concentrated in urban centres.

“As you enter this new world, you must know that your families, your communities and your country have invested much in you. They have invested in you their faith, their hope and their expectations. They look to you to be the builders of our new democratic nation. They look to you to reconstruct our country from the ruins of the past,” says Ramaphosa.

A proud moment for the future leaders, their friends and family.

Ramaphosa has urged graduates to work even harder on their chosen careers and uplift the rural communities.

He identified agriculture and manufacturing as the drivers of economic growth.

“For the people to share in the country’s wealth, we need faster growth. This means we need to produce more, specially the productive sectors of the economy – like Agriculture and Manufacturing – need to account for a greater share of economic output and employment. We need to add more value to the minerals we extract and the agriculture products we grow,” the Vice Chancellor explained.

And as the future shines bright for these students, they prepare to enter the job market but also uplift the communities in which they grew up.
