Ramaphosa, Steinmeier in bilateral discussions

President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier at a ceremony in Cape Town.

Steinmeier is on a three day state visit to South Africa aimed at bolstering diplomatic and trade relations between the two countries.

Steinmeier was welcomed with a military guard of honour that included a 21 gun salute.

The visit follows a bilateral meeting between Ramaphosa and German chancellor Angela Merkel on the margins of the G20 Africa summit in Germany last month.

Germany is one of the largest investors in South Africa providing thousands of jobs.

Ramaphosa has been encouraging companies from the country to invest more to help South Africa’s economic recovery.
