Ramaphosa sends condolences to Tsvangirai’s family

President Cyril Ramaphosa has conveyed his condolences to the government and people of Zimbabwe on the passing of MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Ramaphosa has assured the Tsvangirai family of the solidarity and compassion of the people of South Africa.

Tsvangirai died in Johannesburg on Wednesday at the age of 65 after losing a battle to colon cancer.

Hours after his swearing in, President Ramaphosa’s first international message to the mourning people of Zimbabwe, he said Mr Tsvangirai will be remembered for his profound role in Zimbabwean politics and his prominence which saw him serve as Prime Minister from 2009 to 2013 in the Government of National Unity, during which period the current constitution of Zimbabwe was developed.
