Reading Time: < 1 minute

President Cyril Ramaphosa has paid tribute to all the fallen heroes of the 1976 student’s uprising.

Ramaphosa says this day should celebrate the young people who dedicated their lives to the struggle of freedom in this country.

He was delivering a keynote address at the official Youth Day commemoration event at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

The President says the youth continues to be the force behind pertinent issues.

“It is the young people of our country who have said to us that we cannot have true democracy and freedom without economic emancipation. It is the young people of our country who have said the question of land is the most important issue that we need to address. It is the young people who have also said the issue of skills and education should be put at the top of the agenda,” adds Ramaphosa
