Rains bring some relief to Western Cape

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Dam levels in the City of Cape Town have increased by 2% since last week following some good rains.

The average dam levels now stand at 33.7%.

Despite the crippling drought the Western Cape finds itself in, dam levels are currently more than 12 % higher than at the same time last year.

The city gets its water from six dams, the Berg River, the upper and lower Steenbras dams, Theewaterskloof, Voelvlei and Wemmershoek.

These dams could get another boost as weather forecaster Michael Barnes predicts another cold front for later Sunday.

“A fairly normal cold front is expected. On average about five to 15 millimetres is expected with this system and up to about 25 to 30 millimetres in the more mountainous areas. The rainfall is expected into tomorrow with some on and off showers for the Cape Metro. That rain also does spread into the North Western parts of the province and along the South Coast.”
