Energy Minister, Jeff Radebe has welcomed the Pretoria High Court ruling – in the application to interdict the signing of the Power Purchase Agreements for the 27 projects by Independent Power Producers.
Earlier this month, pressure group Transform RSA, together with workers union Numsa lodged an urgent application seeking an order interdicting power utility Eskom from concluding the 27 renewable energy projects.
High Court Judge Dawie Fourie on Thursday ruled that the application was not urgent and accordingly struck the case off the roll with costs.
In welcoming the ruling, Minister Radebe says his department will continue to vigorously champion the right of consumers to have access to cost efficient and clean energy.
