R2 billion boost for Cape Town housing

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The City of Cape Town says it will spend just over R2 billion on new housing opportunities over the next three financial years.

The city’s draft budget for the 2018/19 financial year was tabled at a full Council sitting last week and is out for public comment.

The City of Cape Town’s Transport and Urban Authority has provided a list of 36 housing developments which are either still in the planning stage, underway or in the process of being finalised.

The developments are located in Nyanga, Belhar, Gugulethu, Manenberg, Langa and Masiphumelele among others.

Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Brett Herron, says there is a dire need for affordable housing in the city and the city is working hard to address this issue.

He says the bulk of the housing opportunities are being developed on well-located land close to public transport services and job opportunities.
