Public urged to ‘prioritise safety’ during cash heists

The Hawks are urging members of the public to consider their safety and alert authorities when witnessing crimes like cash-in-transit heists instead of recording the incident for social media.

This as South Africa experiences an increase in orchestrated attacks on the armoured vans that transport large amounts of money.

The latest attempted cash-in-transit heist was on the N3 near the Marlboro offramp, north of Joburg Wednesday night.

Hawks spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mulamu says law enforcement agencies are working together to try and curb this escalating crime.

He says: “We pleading with the community that whenever they see an incident such as a cash in transit heist to please make sure they are safe before even thinking of taking videos to have a minute of fame. We must consider safety first.”

“The public is also urged to please call the police immediately. That should be the priority.”
