Public urged to participate in discussions to lower pass mark in schools

The Department of Basic Education has called on all South Africans to participate in discussions around the minimum pass mark proposal, that seeks to progress learners in the Senior Phase Grades (7, 8 and 9).

If the proposal is approved, it will require pupils to get 40% in their home languages and three other subjects to progress to the next grade.

Department spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga says they are considering extending the deadline date for the public participation, so that many more people can have an opportunity to have their say…
