The Premier Soccer League (PSL) will make a final decision on Thursday on whether the Thohoyandou Stadium in Limpopo is suitable for PSL games.

PSL senior official, Professor Ronnie Schloss concluded the final assessment at the stadium on Wednesday.

PSL side Black Leopards have registered the stadium as their home ground.

Leopards will play their first home league game against Polokwane City on Saturday and the venue will be confirmed Thursday.

PSL senior official, Ronnie Schloss interacted with David Thidiela, Chairperson of Black Leopards during the final assessment of the Thohoyandou Stadium.

Schloss recommended the construction of three more gates, including one for people living with disabilities.

The state of the stadium has created confusion around the venue of Saturday’s encounter between Leopards and Polokwane FC.

The PSL fixture indicates that Black Leopards will host Polokwane City at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium. However, match tickets indicate that the game will be played at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

Leopard’s Spokesperson Berry Ramunenyiwa says they are anticipating a positive report from the PSL.

“And then after whatever inspection that was done today he will then issue the final verdicts by tomorrow morning (Thursday) and it is safe to say that there are also other documents that will have to be forwarded to the PSL and we are quite positive about the outcome that will play the game in Thohoyandou.”

Thulamela Local Municipality Spokesperson Ndwamato Tshiila says they have tried by all means to revamp the stadium to enable it to host PSL games.

“We have tried by all means to resolve the outstanding issues since we have been given the instruction by the PSL but we hope that on Saturday the match will be played here. We should have done that before. We were having some budgeted constraints, but right now we have tried to budget in a way that in two months’ time you will see that there will be a very serious development.”

Some Leopards fans came to the stadium to witness the final assessment.

Mistake Mundalamo says he wants all Leopards home games to be played at the Thohoyandou Stadium because the alternative venue, the new Peter Mokaba Stadium is far.

“I’m not feeling happy. I want my team to play at Thohoyandou. At Peter Mokaba, we don’t have enough supporters. At Thohoyandou, I know it will be full.”

The PSL have previously expressed concern about the floodlights for night games, entrance and exit into the stadium.

Soccer fans have started to buy match tickets for the Limpopo derby between Leopards and Polokwane City FC.
