Tensions run high at Limpopo ANC conference

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A faction that is disputing the credentials and registration process at the African National Congress (ANC)’s Waterberg region in Limpopo is protesting at the entrance of the Bela-Bela local municipal offices where the registration process for delegates is expected to resume shortly.

The faction disrupted the registration process for the regional conference earlier on Sunday after disputing the credentials of some delegates.

Spokesperson for the disgruntled group Alpheus Thulare says they want the National Executive Committee (NEC) to resolve the problem.

“There are in irregularities in particular around delegates that delegates that have been elected are not delegates that have been registered in those particular forms. Names of the people have been changed from that original list; the NEC must make a decision whether somebody likes it or doesn’t like it. We cannot have a registration process where we are not sure who the delegates are because we are sure these delegates have been tempered with.”

Meanwhile, the ANC’s provincial chairperson Stan Mathabatha has also arrived at the registration venue.
