Proteas performances have been mediocre – Du Plessis

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Proteas captain Faf du Plessis has labelled their performances at the ICC Cricket World Cup as mediocre following their 49-run loss to Pakistan on Sunday.

The Proteas have lost five out of seven matches, registering only one victory against Afghanistan and registering their first point with a washout against West Indies.

Du Plessis says it is tough accepting the reality of having dismally crashed out of the world showpiece.

Left with two matches in the tournament against high flying Sri Lanka and red hot world cup defending champions Australia, Du Plessis argues that it would be a little bit too harsh to call their campaign the worst ever by a South African team.

Not a single batsman in the Proteas top order has scored a century at the World Cup with the team only surpassing the 300 mark once in a losing course against Bangladesh.

Du Plessis says the Proteas have developed chronic mistakes and the inconsistencies are frustrating for a captain. – Report by Thando Gqamane
