The Protea South Primary school in Soweto has been damaged by fire this morning, it is the second school damaged by fire in the past two days.
On Wednesday, Khutlo Tharo Secondary school in Sebokeng in the Vaal was also damaged by fire, the department and police are investigating both incidents.
Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi says the burning of schools is discouraging.
Lesufi says, “These are the kind of things that are taking us backwards, when you have to place learners. When you have to place pupils and you got shortage of classrooms and other people decide to burn the school, it is really discouraging.”
