A 39-year-old prisoner has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for raping a 24-year-old prisoner in Empangeni in the north of KwaZulu-Natal.
Sibusiso Manqele was sentenced for the rape he committed in May 2017.
Manqele entered the cell and threatened to stab the victim with a sharpened toothbrush, before raping him.
The victim reported the incident to a prison warder.
Police spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele the victim was traumatised.
“He left the victim very traumatised and the case was opened. It was then transfered to Empangeni for investigation,” says Mbhele.
“The acting Provincial Commissioner applauded the police for arresting the inmate,” he added.
