Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Pretoria Zoo has a new family member. For the first time in 20 years, a giraffe calf has been born.

The calf which has not yet been named weighed 75kg at birth and now weighs 110kg.

According to the Kruger National Park, calves are weaned between six to eight months, but only about 52% of the calves ever reach maturity, since the young are preyed upon by Lions, Hyenas and Leopards.

Last year, the Joburg Zoo welcomed the births of four tiger cubs, a giraffe calf named Sabawu, and a puma cub.
