Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi will release preliminary 2017/2018 road fatalities statistics in Pretoria on Monday.
In the 2016/2017 festive period, 1 714 people died on South African roads.
This was a 5% increase from the previous year.
Major causes of road crashes which result in fatalities are drunken driving, negligence and general disobedience of traffic regulations.
The minister will be joined by Transport MECs.
