Gauteng police are intensifying their fight against crime leading up to the festive season.

The Gauteng police launched the provincial 2017 Safer Festive Season operations at the Mall of the South on Friday.

De Lange says people should always remain vigilant as criminals are opportunists.

Meanwhile there has been a number of the so called ‘airport followings’ were people have been followed from the airport and robbed of their belongings.

This week police confirmed that three foreign tourists were robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by bogus police officers after arriving in South Africa on Thursday.

Police says the tourists from France, Germany and Switzerland were robbed on the M2 at the Cleveland off-ramp south of Johannesburg.

Deputy National Commissioner Gary Kruser says they have intensified the fight against these criminals.
