Police on Gauteng’s East Rand have praised community members in their role in fighting crime this festive season.

According to police spokesperson Thivhulawi Tshilate at least 183 suspects have been arrested in Ekurhuleni east, in the past week for a variety of crimes, including murder, rape, assault, thefts and burglary, traffic offences and possession of drugs and stolen property.

“Arrests emanated from the operations conducted, roadblocks, vehicle control points, stop and search and the investigations by detectives of who wanted suspects. This also is a success on the basis of partnership with the stakeholders and the information that we received from the community that we followed then effected the arrests. So the cluster commander is very pleased and encourages and appreciated the commitment and determination by the members who are on the ground.”
