Police making progress in Samwu murder investigation

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Limpopo Community Safety MEC Makoma Makhurupetje says police have made progress in the fatal shooting of two senior members of the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu).

However, Makhurupetje has not been able to confirm or deny whether any arrests have been made.

Union officials Ronald Mani and Timson Musetsho were shot and killed in separate incidents in Thohoyandou last week.

They had been strongly critical of municipal authorities who had invested millions of rand in public funds in the now liquidated VBS mutual bank.

Makhurupetje attended the memorial service of the union officials at the Makhuvha stadium outside Thohoyandou, on Friday.

“Government will never surrender its authority to criminals; we cannot have a situation where leaders continue to run away from their families. Indeed there’s a lot of progress and in a short space of time we will see the criminals with our own eyes,” adds Makhurupetje.
