Police investigate train carriage fire in Cape Town

Platforms 15 and 16 at the Cape Town train station will remain closed for the day while Metrorail’s forensic teams investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed several train carriages on Saturday.

The fire started on platform 15 and quickly spread to platform 16. Metrorail spokesperson, Riana Scott, says no one was injured during the fire.

“It destroyed four carriages on platform 15. The fire also spread to the adjacent train parked on platform 16 and three carriages suffered damage. There were no injuries reported. Platforms 15 and 16 are closed for operations while our forensic teams are investigating the incident,” says Scott.
