Ruan Pienaar will make his debut for the Toyota Cheetahs in a thrilling come-back to South African Rugby against Xerox Golden Lions at the Cheetahs’ home ground in Bloemfontein on Friday night.

Coach Franco Smith announced his team on Thursday afternoon, and has made a couple of changes.

Abongile Nonontwana moves back on the bench making space for Marnus van der Merwe.

William Small-Smith will be replaced by Tapiwa Mafura who will be making his debut in the Currie Cup on Friday night.

An exciting change is seeing Pienaar on the bench since joining the Cheetahs two week ago.

This will be Pienaar’s first appearance for a South African team since 2010 when he left the Sharks to join Irish side Ulster. The son of former Springbok fullback Gysie Pienaar, admits the goal is to win the Currie Cup ultimately.

The Cheetahs currently top the Currie Cup log while the Lions are third, one point behind the hosts.  – Report by Tshenolo Meruti
