Phosa accused of fabricating allegations against Mabuza

The African National Congress in Mpumalanga has accused former Treasurer General, Mathews Phosa, of fabricating allegations against the provincial chairperson, David Mabuza. Speaking during a press briefing, ANC Mpumalanga spokesperson, Sasekani Manzini, says Phosa is desperately attempting to rescue his presidential campaign.

ANC presidential hopeful, Phosa, has threatened to challenge the results of Mpumalanga’s Provincial General Council (PGC) in court. Phosa applied to the North Gauteng High Court to have the results set aside.

ANC branches in the province announced their preferred leadership candidates during the Provincial General Council that was held in Mbombela Stadium last Friday. Some of the branches in the province nominated “UNITY” as their preferred candidate for the ANC presidency.

“Our approach is very simple, there are six legs on which the court application stands and on any of the legs we can throw the whole PGC out but we want to be very responsible as members of the ANC and in a particular way make sure that the branches that are innocent go to the conference.”

However, the ANC in Mpumalanga says the branch nomination processes were not influenced by the Provincial Executive Committee. ANC provincial spokesperson, Sasekani Manzini, has dismissed the allegations that some Branch General Meetings were disrupted and some members of the ANC intimidated.

“We find it extremely unfair for Mr Phosa to deliberately manufacture lies that create a shadow of doubt on the credible organisational process the ANC in Mpumalanga conducted in the build up to the upcoming 54th National Conference. To the best of the PEC’s knowledge confirmed by the recently held Provincial General Council, no branch in the province nominated Mr Phosa for the position of President and these nomination he is referring to can only be created and live in his mind.”

Meanwhile, the Mpumalanga ANC Youth League Secretary, Puluso Mbatshane, says the ANC should take serious actions against Phosa.

“We want to call upon the leadership of the ANC to take strong measures on comrade Phosa and if needs be the fellow must be taken to a health institution for mental assessment. We really don’t believe that the man is in his right state of mind, we believe that is either consuming something that is disturbing his system or is really lost the band there. We are calling for all possible help. If possible we should perhaps organise a trip to the Eastern Cape similar to the trip that he took when he went for blessings for the position of President probably should take him back to the pastor.”

The Umkhonto weSizwe Veterans Association (MKVA) has also dismissed allegations that regional chairperson, David Mabuza, has a private army.  MKVA secretary, Charles Nkuna, says the video that surfaced with a group of people firing gun shots was taken before the BGMs. Nkuna says they were having a celebration at a house where they use to hide during the apartheid days.

“MKMVA cannot be reduced to an army of a certain individual. We are protecting the ANC and we will always defend the ANC because we have a background and a history with ANC. That is the only organisation we must live in; we are requesting comrade Phosa to please follow the right procedure of the ANC.”

The MKVA says they were not using live ammunition but blanks.
