Port Elizabeth is among the cities bidding to host the inaugural SA T20 League scheduled to start in October.

This was confirmed by Eastern Province Cricket President Donovan May.

The tournament will comprise six teams playing a total of 32 matches.

May is confident that the city’s historic St Georges Park will be one of the hosting venues.

“Each and every stadium has to put a bid proposal to host the games because there would be six teams and only six venues will be chosen for the league. Definitely, St Georges Park will be one of the stadiums that will be hosting the T20 league. The team will be owned by Cricket South Africa and Eastern Province Cricket will handle the team with our infrastructure”.

Meanwhile, Eastern Cape’s cricket franchise, the Warriors, has offered Proteas spin bowler Shafiek Abrahams, a managerial role in the team.

Abrahams has promised to hit the ground running.

“What we’re going to see here is something that we can be proud of from perspective. We can expect the team to continue on its good way. From my side, just stick with the team this season. We are not going to win all our games. We are not going to bring back all the trophies. What I can tell, you are going to see a good effort; you are going to see better prepared players this season.”
