There’s a possibility of flooding in much of the north-east of the country.

The Weather Service says heavy rain is expected in parts of the Free State, North West, Gauteng, Mpumalanga Highveld and much of KwaZulu-Natal.

Rain is forecast to continue in Gauteng, Mpumalanga Highveld, eastern North West and the eastern Free State on Friday.

Severe thunderstorms are also expected over the south-eastern parts of the Northern Cape.

Meanwhile, the Johannesburg Emergency Services has sent Disaster Management Monitoring Teams to almost 200 informal settlements around the City in case of possible flooding.

Johannesburg Emergency spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi says motorists are urged to drive safely and be on the lookout for school going children.

“Young children are also urged to stay away from drainage systems and river streams to avoid drowning incidents. Most importantly motorists must refrain from trying to take a chance to cross flooded bridges, flooded roads. We encourage them to use alternative routes,” says Mulaudzi.
