Parties woo Limpopo voters with delivery promises

Political parties in Limpopo are promising the electorate paved roads, free education and to stamp out corruption in the administration.

Six departments in the province have been put under administration for poor-performance and R 1.3 billion was returned to the national government because it was not spent.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission about 2. 5 million people in Limpopo have registered to vote. That is about 81.2 % of the eligible electorate in the province.

Speaking at Morning Live’s election debate at the Bakone Malapa Open Air Museum, the Africa National Congress’s (ANC) Seaparo Sekoati says they are making plans to ensure the streets are paved or tarred in every village in the province.

Economic Freedom Fighter’s (EFF) Michael Mathebe promises to strengthen security at the borders, a minimum wage to farmers and free education.

Azapo’s Mokotedi Radingwana says the party aims to protect local business people, such as foreign-owned shops and to establish a youth ministry.

Democratic Alliance’s Langa Bodlani proposes a regulatory framework to cap corruption in order to create a clean government.

Resident analyst from the University of Limpopo, Lucas Nemutanzhela says support for the ANC will dip in the coming elections because of emerging parties like EFF and Agang South Africa.
