Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Finance has condemned Economic Freedom Fighters’ Member of Parliament, Floyd Shivambu‘s utterances against senior Treasury official, Ismail Momoniat.

In a committee meeting on Tuesday, Shivambu accused Momoniat of being racist and corrupt. The chairperson of the committee, Yunus Carrim says MPs must guard against fuelling the growing racial polarisation in the country.

He called on Shivambu to bring forward evidence of corruption against Momoniat. Meanwhile, the African National Congress caucus in Parliament has also voiced its disappointment in Shivambu’s remarks.

In a statement the EFF says it stands by its view that Momoniat undermines and disregards African leadership in National Treasury.
