Parliament says National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise and National Council of Provinces Chairperson Amos Masondo will await the official correspondence from Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, for her recommendations to be considered by Parliament.

Mkhwebane has recommended that Modise should refer Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan to the Joint Ethics and Members Interest Committee.

This comes after Mkhwebane found that Gordhan violated the Executives Ethics Code. She found that Gordhan deliberately misled Parliament by failing to disclose that he had a meeting with one of the Gupta family members and associates in 2012 when he was still Finance Minister.

“We have taken note as Parliament the publicly reported release of the report of the Public Protector. And as with any report of the Public Protector, were there are any expectations of Parliament’s action in relation to the remedial actions of the  Public Protector, such has to be communicated officially from the office of the Public Protector to  the presiding officers with clear stated expectations for Parliament. So, Parliament of course will await the communication from the Public Protector, so that such can be considered” says Parliament’s Spokesperson is Moloto Mothapo.
